Are You Considering Hiring a Blogger?

Is your company considering hiring a professional blogger? In a perfect world, all CEOs of companies would have the time and talent to write 2 – 3 blog posts every week that were optimized for the search engines and engaging for the readers. But that’s just not reality, is it? Many business owners are understanding the importance of using social media and are turning to professional bloggers in order to be able to interact with their customers online.

Here are a few things to consider when hiring a blogger:

Involvement. It’s understandable that you have little time to maintain a blog while trying to run a business. And let’s face it, not everyone has a knack for writing. But that doesn’t mean you should hand over the reins completely to your blogger. You need to be involved in the content creation. Think of some topics that you’d like to discuss with prospects and customers. What would you like people to know about your company? Make sure to have a say, and always read and sign off on posts before they are published online.

The Long Haul. Ideally you’ll hire a blogger with the intention of forming a long-lasting business relationship with them. Take the time up front to be available to them so they may learn what you and your company are all about. And, it goes without saying, hire someone who will also take the time to get to know you and your company.

Point of contact. Once you’ve hired a professional blogger and you’ve gotten to know one another and you’re sure you’re both on the same page as far as your brand message, define a point person of contact within your company who will be available to your blogger should he or she have questions. You obviously are too busy to take every phone call that comes in for you, but your blogger’s time is valuable as well, and they should have access to someone in your company who can furnish them with information and answers when necessary.

These few pointers should help you hire the right blogger for your company.

Have you recently hired a blogger? Are they a good fit?
